Gurukul & Modern Education- You prefer?

Education has been important to us since ancient times. It helps people not only to learn new things but also helpful to see various interesting and unbelievable things occurring around the surroundings. In ancient times, with the help of education, the cultures were extending day by day with new techniques. In India, it is so interesting to hear about the education system. It is very different from other countries. So, before reading it broadly we will divide it into two categories, i.e., Ancient education and modern education. So without wasting time let’s start with the first topic.

ANCIENT EDUCATION or Gurukul

The term ‘Gurukul’ is the same as the school as both are related to the same root directly or indirectly I.e., EDUCATION, Knowledge, etc., but the way of getting these differentiate each other. Gurukul is generally taken by the word ‘Guru’ which is generally known as the navigators of the human being which navigate the human being to the light and make them, able to fight with the dark. This meaning is similar to the meaning of the school.

Ancient education of India or gurukul describes that in ancient times, what type of education was and how was it helpful. This type of education was in our country in which children from the age of 5 years to approx. 21 to 23 years read and the teachers make them compatible with the external environment and general awareness.

In ancient India, the gurukuls were held by ‘Acharya’ who teach students. Gurukul system was like that there were 18 subjects used to teach and each subject taught for approx. one year in such a way that they got all the informative things they had to want. These subjects were including all the subjects which we use to read now i.e. Maths, Physics, Biology, Chemistry as well as Astrological studies also and so on. The interesting and pointable fact is that they were given almost 17 years to complete it.

The most interesting thing noticed in that era was that the literacy rate of India was almost 100 percent all over the country. We know that India was known as the ‘Golden Bird’. This was capable of due to the gurukuls which made them so. After all, we think that having this type of best education way why India lost the Gurukul. The reason for this was a Britisher named T.B Macaulay who roamed all over the country and say during a meeting in British that the main reason for getting difficulties in slaving India is its education system in which their schools or gurukuls are the main factors of that main reason.

He said that the literacy rate of India all over the country was so very larger than the literacy rate of the British. During the meeting, he also said that if they had to slave India then they had to first end the gurukul of India. After the declination of the gurukul, they established their type of knowledge which we generally knew as a school. They firstly show it in type that it was good and later on we follow the tradition of the school and due to that of Britishers we lost our ancient type of education system that is gurukul.

MODERN SCHOOL

As we read how modern schools were established in India. Now, we first understand what modern school is. So, before understanding it, we first understand the related factor of modern school i.e., modern education. This term is always regarded with technology, if we go forward in our life the term technology will be everywhere. It is similar to the modern school. In modern school, we learn about the surroundings, we learn basic things. We learn for our future, survival, we learn for being an educated person, and so on.

In this, we learn almost all the basic subjects. We learn them for a year then we change it according to class. After a year, we go for the next class again next year, we go to the next class and last we have to take a degree that proves that you are educated but in this, the problem arises that if you are full of knowledge and you have not any degree then you will have a problem in getting jobs. As you are in a new era, technology is very important and modern school provides this facility very well. This way provides us elaborate information about it.

Which one was beneficial?

After reading the above topics, we will find that both ancient education or gurukul and the school have different types of getting an education. The advantages of modern education are that it helps make our work easier directly or indirectly but we will find that in this we can’t take make our work a better future without a degree in the society of educational growth. The main disadvantage is the ‘degree’ you have to get without it, you are valueless in this educational world. This is also for the reason of suicide in our country but in gurukul, we found that this made our country the latest country in the world.

This made that time of students to think beyond the world. They didn’t care for what they learn they care that how to learn. They made them be a well-formed mind but in school, we are forced to be well-filled minds. We don’t force to think beyond the limitations, we have to work on only that thing which has written or proved or which we have to prove, that should also in that way which is written in the given medium.

For example- a child learns from the beginning that the earth is round, he doesn’t think that is the earth is really round but the child who cares about it he finds that the earth is elliptical. This isn’t the fault of that child. Actually, we are banded in the era of ‘degree’ where nothing is important. I have you a degree which proves that you are educated then you will get the respect if you are not then you can’t get.
